In honor of permanently protecting TEN thousand acres, here are TEN different ways you can support the land you love…

  1. Direct donations – give simple but meaningful gifts through cash, credit cards, checks and money orders.
  2. Sustaining gifts – set up recurring donations on PLT’s website that are automatically withdrawn from your checking account or credit card monthly or quarterly
  3. Workplace giving – your employer might have a program where you can give regularly through payroll deduction and might even be able to match your gift, helping your gift to make a bigger impact. Check with your HR department.
  4. Gift membership – honor a special person or a special occasion with a gift to PLT, or leave a gift in memory of a loved one
  5. Stock – giving appreciated stock often has more advantages for you than giving cash. If you itemize your deductions, you can take a charitable deduction for the value of the stock at the time you donate it, plus you can avoid the capital gains taxes on the increase in value since you have owned it.
  6. IRA – If you’re 70 ½ or older, you can donate up to $100,000 per year from your traditional IRA, and it can count as your required minimum distribution. This gift is not taxed if it’s transferred directly to a charity because it is a distribution from your IRA that is not counted as income.
  7. Donor Advised Funds – allow you to make a charitable contribution to an account established in your name at an administering charity, such as Fidelity, Vanguard, or your local community foundation. You receive an immediate tax benefit when you fund your account, and then recommend grants to your charities of choice over time—think of it like a charitable savings account.
  8. CARS – donating your car, truck, RV, motorcycle, boat, or other vehicle is easy. Trained staff from CARS guide you through the simple process online or over the phone.
  9. Land – donate your land or a conservation easement, now or after your lifetime. Land can be donated for conservation purposes, or as a real estate asset that PLT can sell and use proceeds to protect and care for other land with higher conservation values.
  10. Planned gift – join a special group of visionaries we call “Forever Society” members by leaving PLT in your will or estate plans. Your legacy will preserve our natural wonders for generations to come.
