We have put procedures and protocols in place for the safety of the public, our volunteers, and our staff during the Coronavirus epidemic. We are only able to offer public recreational hikes and activities if guests fully comply with these protocols. Any guest that does not follow these protocols will be asked to leave and not allowed to come back.  Thank you for your cooperation, and happy hiking!

If you are not comfortable or able to comply with the safety guidelines stated below, we respectfully ask that you do NOT sign up for the hike.

BEFORE SIGNING UP, ASSESS IF THIS HIKE IS RIGHT FOR YOU:

  • Those at high risk for Covid-19 or with pre-existing health conditions should not attend.
  • We encourage following State guidelines to recreate locally and travel within your community.
  • Parents are responsible for making sure their children strictly follow safety guidelines.
  • Group size is limited to 12 persons total, of which two or three will be docents or staff. You must register in advance to participate.
  • Guests are expected to show respect for other hikers and our docents by following our safety procedures.

PRIOR TO ARRIVING:

  • Review the information on your confirmation email advising you what to bring and how to prepare.
  • If you’ve had any flu-like or Covid-19 symptoms, fever or cough in the past 24 hours, or think you’ve been exposed to someone with the virus, please stay home and join us another time.
  • Before leaving your home, take your temperature and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Fill out our liability waiver and bring it with you.

AT THE PRESERVE:

  • Docents will check you in at the preserve gate. You must have the completed waiver with you to continue onto the preserve.
  • You will be asked to hold the waiver up from your car so the docent can see that it’s filled out, and then you will place the waiver in the docent’s envelope.
  • We prefer donations made online at time of reservation. If you’d like to give a cash/check donation on site, please put it in a sealed envelope with your name clearly written on the outside and give it to the docent with your liability waiver.
  • All docents and guests should wear face coverings when within 6 feet of others. Be prepared to cover your nose and mouth and give others space.
  • While on the trail, you must maintain at least a 6-foot distance from anyone not in your immediate household. Walking sticks are a great way to help you maintain this distance!
  • Bring your own face coverings, hand sanitizer, and sufficient water, and carry them with you at all times. No sharing of personal items with people outside of your household.
  • Use preserve amenities (picnic tables, porta potty) at your own risk.
  • Try to park six feet from other vehicles.

OTHER SAFETY MEASURES IN PLACE:

  • Docents may wear gloves during check-in to collect paperwork. No other direct contact should happen.
  • Docents will sanitize commonly touched areas before/after events (such as entrance gate, lock, porta potty door)
  • Leave No Trace – Respect our preserves by taking your garbage out with you, including disposable gloves, masks, food wrappers, or other items.
