Classic California pop with gorgeous harmonies, textured arrangements, an organic sound and a sense of joy

Vocalist Allyson Seconds is a longtime fixture on the Sacramento, California music scene. She’s also a certified California Naturalist and founder of Sacramento Picks It Up!, a volunteer group that organizes trash cleanups of regional waterways. Singer/songwriter/producer Anton Barbeau is known locally and internationally for his psychedelically-tinged pop music, described by SPIN Magazine as “a pure distillation of lyrical jabberwocky, brain-burrowing melody and mystical psych-guitar fuzz.” For this event, they’ll be bringing a unique mix of lively, danceable originals and favorite classic covers.

The duo’s albums have featured guest appearances from Colin Moulding of XTC, Kimberley Rew of Katrina and the Waves, Gabe Nelson and Vince Di Fiore from Cake, among many notable collaborators. Their second record, Little World, garnered attention on the airwaves of NPR’s “Fresh Air” and beyond, and remains Seconds’s calling card on the global indie pop scene.

NPR’s Ken Tucker summed up their partnership: “In Allyson Seconds’ singing, even when she says the sun isn’t shining, you nevertheless feel the warmth of the California sun… The music she makes with her collaborator Anton Barbeau frequently whips up a psychedelic swirl that summons up images of trippy afternoons spent lying in the grass… Seconds and Barbeau have revitalized power pop by creating an alternate universe of the sunniest sounds.”
