Robert Weygandt has called Placer County home for over 60 years, living on the same ranch where he grew up in rural Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln High School, and went to the University of Southern California where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance and management. Robert went on to become the vice president, chief financial officer, and part owner of WECO Aerospace Systems, an aircraft repair facility in Lincoln. He has also served as a county planning commissioner, member of the county economic development board, and a community college instructor.
But most of us know Robert from his 28 years as a Placer County Supervisor (1995 to 2022), as the representative of the western portion of the County. There, he demonstrated his dedication to land conservation through his role in creating the Placer Legacy Open Space and Agricultural Conservation Program (Placer Legacy) and the Placer County Conservation Program (PCCP). He was a leading voice in balancing development in the County with the protection of natural resources, working lands, and the scenic beauty of our area. Placer Land Trust is excited to honor his achievements with the 2023 Placer Conservator Award.
“I am greatly appreciative of this recognition,” says Robert. “Placer Land Trust has been a fantastic partner with the County on the PCCP. It was a real privilege to be on a team of remarkable people. I think we accomplished something that’s very significant that will provide great opportunity to do conservation work that could be a national model”.
Now that he’s retired, Robert has enjoyed more time doing the things he loves — spending time outdoors, fly fishing whenever and wherever he can, and spending time with family. He has a son Eric and a daughter Stephanie, and is a proud grandpa of granddaughters Haley, Madison, Sydney, and Emma Grace, and grandsons Braden, Tanner, Blake, and Josh.
