Get up bright and early to join us for Beginning Birdwatching on Sunday, May 1, starting at 8:00am. This excursion on the Taylor Ranch Preserve is open to all levels of birders; no prior experience necessary, and more advanced birders are welcome too! We are joining the statewide movement to “Take it Outside California”.
We will saunter along the banks of Coon Creek and wend slowly through open Blue oak grassland looking and listening for year-round residents and migrating songbirds. We’ll practice basic birding identification skills and likely will get to know the common residents of this beautiful riparian forest habitat.
Difficulty: This will be an easy outing with no more than a mile of hiking/walking involved, with some uphill and downhill travel on uneven ground and rough terrain. Some of the walking may be off trail in cow pastureland and may have cow patties and hoof print holes.
This docent led outing is in a natural setting in the wilderness: there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need. We suggest you wear sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.
Please bring binoculars and/or field guides if you have them. You might want to bring along a notepad to record notes of what you learned and saw. We will end around 10am.
You are encouraged to bring water and snacks to enjoy along the way. You may also want mosquito repellent, sunscreen and a hat. Feel free to bring your camera along too!
We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.

This event is free, however donations are always appreciated.
The event begins at 8:00am in North Auburn. Directions will be emailed after registration. The deadline to sign up is Noon the Friday prior to the event. In the event of heavy rain, the event will be cancelled.
