We are pleased to announce that Karen Keene was appointed as the newest member of Placer Land Trust’s Board of Directors at the March 2017 Board meeting.

Karen considers herself a native Californian, despite being born in Maine, as she has lived most of her formative and adult years in northern California. Following her passion for land use and natural resources policy, Karen completed graduate coursework in City and Regional Planning at California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo.

After a few years as a land use consultant, Karen built a distinguished career spanning 27 years at the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) as a Senior Legislative Representative and Director of Federal Affairs, from where she recently retired.

“Becoming a Board member for Placer Land Trust is a natural transition that utilizes my relationships, hands-on experience and passion for agriculture and open space landscapes,” explains Karen. “To be able to contribute to the community in this way as a volunteer is perfect.”

Karen lives with her husband Ron on three acres in Loomis where they’ve resided for the past 14 years.

They both share a love for live music and working on their grounds. Ron is often behind the wheel of their tractor while Karen is tending the garden. Now that she has more time, Karen is also looking forward to exploring the various trails in the area, especially those on PLT preserves!

“It is exciting to have someone with Karen’s knowledge join our Board of Directors”, said Placer Land Trust Board President Fred Yeager. “Her past experience and background in land use and planning will be a great benefit for our organization and help us as we continue our mission of preserving land in Placer County for current and future generations.”

Welcome and congratulations Karen!
