Partnering for Protection
Placer Land trust worked with Amazing Facts Inc, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to acquire a conservation easement on 27 acres of oak woodlands and wetlands in Granite Bay. Our role will be to manage and monitor the property to ensure the wetlands and cultural values are protected in perpetuity.
Protecting Habitat and Cultural Resources
The Preserve is located in Granite Bay and contains beautiful blue oak woodlands, seasonal swales as well as a pond. The land is located nearby to a historic Nisenan village named Odayan; Placer Land Trust has named it “Odayan Preserve” in recognition of the many past generations of Nisenan land stewardship.
Multiple Benefits
Healthy oak woodlands can moderate temperature extremes, reduce soil erosion, and sustain water quality, thereby supporting the riches diversity of wildlife species abundance over any other habitat type in California. Approximately 331 species of wildlife inhabit Placer County’s oak woodlands.
The seasonally wet meadow and the riparian corridor, in addition to the oak woodlands, further enhance the Property’s biodiversity. Wetland areas and riparian zones provide critical habitat for a wide range of terrestrial and aquatic species while also contributing to water quality by filtering excessive nutrients and other pollutants before the water reaches the stream
