A Public Community Park Protecting Oak Woodlands
Through Placer Land Trust’s land conservation work and the commitment of the community, the Auburn School Park Preserve property opened as a public park in the heart of Auburn between downtown and Old Town in October 2008.
Oak Woodlands
The property contains three acres of oak woodlands, including four species of oaks (blue oaks, interior live oaks, black oaks, and valley oaks) and several “heritage oaks” over 150 years old.
Community Asset
The property provides an unique urban setting for the public to learn about the value of oak woodlands and the usefulness of conservation easements in protecting them. The Park provides interpretive trails, a restored perennial stream, the renovated historic Cooper Amphitheater, and information about local outdoor recreation opportunities.
Riparian Habitat
“Daylighting” the historic North Rich Ravine, and the placement of a wooden pedestrian bridge over the creek, provides access to intact riparian areas in downtown Auburn. Protecting habitat around streams and wetlands ensures that nature’s filtration system remains intact reducing erosion and keeping watersheds healthy and clean.
