Kate Nitta is an attorney with the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), where she works on a wide-ranging area of topics related to solid waste and recycling in the state. Prior to working with CalRecycle, she worked as a legislative advocate at the Judicial Council as part of Sacramento State’s Judicial Administration Fellowship program. Kate is a graduate of Golden Gate University School of Law and U.C. Davis. She is a Placer County native and grew up on five beautiful acres in Penryn, where her parents still live. Land stewardship has been part of her family for generations, particularly in the form of her family’s historic farm, Nitta Ranch, in Loomis, which has been
producing peaches and other produce since the early 1900s. In her spare time Kate enjoys backpacking,
trail running, and travel.
“It is easy to become swept up in the hurried business of everyday life, so having wild places available in our own backyard is necessary so we can take a step back and see the bigger picture. I feel the most humbled and refreshed after spending time in nature, which is why it is so important to preserve our rural lands for ours and future generations’ use and enjoyment.”
