It’s official — yesterday evening, the Placer County Office of Education approved their $2.37 million investment in protecting Clover Valley. That means, along with generous contributions from several other sources, we have now secured the full funding amount to permanently protect the valley floor!

We all did it! Once we close escrow in April and record the Conservation Easement, the heart of Clover Valley will never be developed or subdivided — it will remain a beautiful natural place forever. Right now, let’s just take a moment to enjoy how wonderful that feels!

We are so grateful to each and every person who has helped make this project possible…

  • Hundreds of people wrote to elected officials or spoke at public meetings advocating for saving Clover Valley. Individuals have given or pledged over $1.3M to date, including a very generous anonymous donor who gave $1.1M of that total!
  • In the absence of funding available from the State of California, local agencies and organizations stepped up in an extraordinary collaborative partnership to contribute the needed funds.
  • Placer County, the City of Rocklin, City of Lincoln, Placer County Office of Education, Jessup University, Sky View Foundation, and Emigrant Trails Greenway Trust all made significant contributions to the fundraising effort, along with Placer Land Trust donors.
Clover Valley, on the left, is the last major undeveloped open space in Rocklin.

We’re especially grateful to the education community for their commitment to protecting Clover Valley as a learning resource for students in Placer County. Jessup University pioneered this project through their conversations with the landowner, securing a significantly discounted purchase price to protect the land for conservation and education. And PCOE’s recent support of $2.37M is a huge investment in hands-on outdoor education that will benefit generations to come.

We look forward to sharing updates about the project completion next month. Clover Valley will eventually be open to the public in ways that align with the protection of the conservation values of this land, but it will take some time to establish guidelines for safe, legal and compatible public access on this one-of-a-kind preserve. In the meantime, we plan to hold docent-led tours so our community can have an opportunity to visit this precious place that you all helped to protect!

The valley offers extraordinary natural beauty as well as opportunities for education and recreation!
