Date & Time: Sunday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m.
Location: Laursen Bear River Preserve, North Auburn
Forest Bathing is taking a slow walk among trees, absorbing the natural surroundings with all your senses (sight, touch, sound, smell, internal energy). At various times the docent guide will encourage the participants to experience the beautiful surroundings for each sense in new ways. The group size will be small enough that there is a feeling of intimacy in the experience.
We will meander as a group focusing on seeing the trees from every angle, cross the stream listening to the sound of the water, and continue up the road. We will pause at a beautiful spot among big boulders to do the Tai Chi-Qigong movements of Eight Pieces of Brocade. These easy movements (which are done standing,) draw Qi to circulate positively within the body, mind, and spirit to wake up our internal energy. We will continue walking through the trees and circle back to where we started.
Distance and difficulty: 2 miles and will take approximately 2 hours. It is an easy slow, meditative walk led by docent Amy Stroud.
Who should attend: Open to anyone. Sorry, no dogs are allowed unless they are service animals (due to the potential conflicts with livestock and wildlife).
Cost: This is a free event; however, donations help make these activities possible! Plus, your donation of any size makes you, and everyone in your household, a Placer Land Trust member for one year. About Laursen Bear River Preserve
This preserve, which includes a working cattle ranch, protects critical unfragmented oak woodlands in the Bear River watershed and is part of one of the last relatively “wild” areas in western Placer County. The preserve is comprised of 361 acres of blue oak woodland and about 1.5 miles of riparian habitat along the banks of the Bear River. Learn more about this beautiful preserve here.
This activity is a wilderness outing in a natural setting (there are NOrestrooms on-site). PLT reserves the right to cancel an event in cases of extreme weather, bad air quality, rain, or other conditions beyond our control.
Directions to the Preserve and a list of what to bring will be emailed after registration. Check your spam folder if you do not receive the email within 15 minutes of registering.
Important Note: Our Big Hill, Harvego and Laursen Preserves, including the roads surrounding them, are not open to the public. Please help us respect the neighborhoods around these preserves by only visiting during scheduled guided activities that you are registered for. Trespassers will be prosecuted.
