As 2022 comes to a close, we are thrilled to announce the permanent protection of 1,200 acres of the Bear River headwaters! Placer Land Trust just recorded a perpetual conservation easement to protect this property, located north of Interstate 80 from Alta to Blue Canyon.
Bear River Headwaters Preserve will be open to the public for recreation, and will be part of a permanently protected Demonstration State Forest spanning the Upper Bear & American River watersheds. Demonstration State Forests serve as “living laboratories” where researchers, scientists, landowners and citizens can learn about forest management strategies. As our second-largest project to date, completion of this project also gets us closer to our goal to protect at least 25,000 acres in Placer County by 2030!
