Wow, I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since my first BIG Day of Giving—what a ride that was! I know I speak for the entire Placer Land Trust staff and board when I say, THANK YOU to our members for making this day such a huge success! It was truly an honor to be a part of an event that raised over $5.6 million for 529 nonprofits that make the Greater Sacramento region an amazing place to live, work and play. We are humbled by the level of support we received, and are proud to have contributed to Placer County’s success on the BIG Day.

Now that we’ve had some time to reflect on the day, and crunch some numbers, I want to share a few results with you:

  • PLT raised $128,891 from 307 donors in one day, and earned an additional $13,000 in prizes (these results are pending a final audit by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation).
  • 100% of our board and staff showed their support of our mission by giving a personal donation.
  • A significant factor of our success was support from our major donors who gave a total of $75,000. A HUGE thanks goes to Emigrant Trails Greenway Trust, Barry & Lynda Keller, and Andy & Shana Laursen!
  • 85 people became new PLT members on the BIG Day of Giving!

For me personally, the BIG Day of Giving was a great opportunity to meet and collaborate with people and organizations in both Placer and Sacramento Counties. I was able to get to know the wonderful staff at both Placer Community Foundation and Sacramento Region Community Foundation, who did a spectacular job to make this event exceed all goals! This day united hundreds of nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders in a common goal to raise funds to improve our community. It’s great to know that there are amazing things happening in our region, and to know that we’re playing a part in it!

Thanks again to everyone for listening to PLT’s story, and for acting on it—whether it was on the BIG Day of Giving, or any other day of the year; and whether it was in the form of a monetary donation, or through giving your time and talent! We hope you’ll continue to spread the word of PLT’s efforts as there are many more acres of land to be preserved, wildlife habitat to be restored, and trails to be built. You will help us ensure your grandkids have the same beautiful landscapes, locally grown food, and outdoor recreation opportunities that your grandparents had!

Sincerely,
Kara Walker
