Join our trained docents in a peaceful winter morning hike! Come enjoy the crisp woodland air and a landscape preparing for the coming spring. Docents will guide the hike and take guests to various outcrop vistas for catching views of peaks mountain ranges and landmarks.
Join our volunteer docents for a guided hike to see the natural wonders of the foothills under the light of the Long Night Moon! The Long Night Moon is so named by the Mohican people because this full moon rises during the longest nights of the year right before the winter solstice. We start while it’s still a little light so you can watch how the preserve transforms as the night grows darker. We will hike to a scenic overlook to watch the moon continue to rise then finish with a quiet descent through oak woodlands illuminated by the moon. Get ready for the unique sensory experience of a Placer Land Trust preserve at night!
The day after Thanksgiving is the perfect time to get outside! We’ve eaten too much and we just need to move! It’s a great low-key way to spend a day with the family or friends, or a chance for a lovely solo stroll on trails with no crowds.
Let our Geologist docents take you on a special hike focusing on the geology and hydrology of the foothills. This rural land has distinctive rock outcrops and a year-round stream that sources one of the regional irrigation canal systems. The hike takes us to a high point in the region, with views from the Coast Ranges to the Sierra Nevada. We discuss how this beautiful landscape evolved over millions of years and how it relates to the geology of greater California. Discussions include topics in earthquakes, volcanoes, and the source and fate of Sierra Nevada surface water. This hike has become one of our most popular activities and fills up fast!
