Your actions today can leave a legacy to protect the lands you value in Placer County for generations to come. Naming Placer Land Trust as a beneficiary of your will, trust, retirement account, or other plans is a visionary way to ensure our wild open spaces, farms and ranches, waterways, and natural playgrounds are protected forever.

“Placer Land Trust was an easy choice to be among our legacy beneficiaries, because of its remarkable conservation track record! Having been born and raised in Roseville, I was especially interested in continuing to support PLT’s good work to preserve its share of California’s natural heritage.”

– David Manhart & Joan Levers

Inspire Others

Visionaries who include Placer Land Trust in their will and/or estate plans are considered members of our Forever Society. Members enjoy unique benefits like tours of Placer Land Trust properties, special events, and the opportunity to be recognized for their contribution. And participation as a Forever Society member also inspires others to join and make their own legacy gifts. Members can also choose to remain anonymous to the public.

Please let us know your plans by completing a Planned Giving Intention Form:

Tip: The fillable PDF can be completed on your computer and returned via email; the printer-friendly version is ideal for printing and mailing in. The web form can be completed and submitted online.

Below are descriptions of the most popular ways you can safeguard the future with Placer Land Trust.

One of the most popular and easiest type of legacy gift is to name Placer Land Trust as a beneficiary in your will, trust, or estate plan. You can specify a dollar amount, percentage, or remainder of your estate and/or specific property asset. Just include our legal name and tax I.D. number:

Placer Land Trust
Taxpayer Identification Number: 68-0223143

Sample language you can review with your attorney:
I give, devise, and bequeath to Placer Land Trust, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation with offices in Auburn, California (Tax ID: 68-0223143), the sum of $____________ (or describe any real or personal property), to be used for its general purposes.

If you make a bequest to us through FreeWill or any other way, please let us know!

Placer Land Trust can receive most forms of bequests, but we cannot advise you professionally. Please seek the advice of a professional attorney and/or estate tax expert before executing a will or living trust.

This is another easy yet meaningful way to make a legacy gift that benefits land protection without changing your will or trust. Simply contact your plan administrator to name Placer Land Trust as the full or partial beneficiary of your individual retirement account (IRA), 401(k), life insurance policy, or other account.

Account administrators do not always let us know when these transfers have been arranged, so please let us know so that we can make sure your gift is received and applied as you intend.

There are options for real estate that Placer Land Trust may sell to fund our work. You can bequest property to us through your will or trust, or you might even be able to continue using your property and/or receive income through it and donate a remainder interest through a charitable remainder trust.

If your intention is to leave land to the Trust outright, it is very important to meet with our staff while the will is in preparation so that we understand your desires for the future conservation and use of the property.

And if you have real estate that you would like to donate, but it does not meet our conservation requirements, we may be able to protect other high-priority land with proceeds from the sale of your donated property.

Whatever your intentions, it’s most important to speak with us as well as a professional advisor about your interests as you prepare your will or other plan. With this information about the land and your goals, we have a better chance of fulfilling your expectations.

You can also ensure protection of Placer County’s natural and agricultural resources through gifts that generate income and tax benefits for you or your loved one(s) –today or later – that also leave a meaningful gift to Placer Land Trust.

Consider a Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Gift Annuity that generate payments to you during your lifetime and distributes the remainder to Placer Land Trust.

Please speak with us and your professional advisor about these and other ways to turn your assets into legacy.

Not everyone can make donations during their lifetime; legacy giving is a way for everyone to make a gift to their community when they don’t need their assets any more.”
