Gary is a former classroom teacher who has been volunteering for Placer Land Trust since 2006.  He is currently employed by Placer Land Trust as Stewardship Assistant but decided to continue volunteering as a hike docent because he loves to share the amazing landscapes that Placer Land Trust protects.  He is an avid nature lover and outdoor wanderer and tries to take any opportunity to get outside and go hiking, backpacking, trail running, birding, or kayaking.

Gary’s love for animals has inspired him to volunteer for Gold Country Wildlife Rescue. His passion for music has led him to become a broadcaster for KVMR FM in Nevada City, as well as a host of house concerts in his living room. Gary shares most of these activities with his wife, Shannon, who is also a Placer Land Trust volunteer docent and school teacher. He and Shannon joined the Placer Land Trust docent team in January 2016.

“I volunteer as a hike docent for the Placer Land Trust because I have a strong belief that if you care about something, you want to be part of it and share it with others. The conservation practices of the Land Trust are vital to the protection of unique natural landscapes of Placer County. I love learning about and exploring these areas, and it’s an honor to be able to share that knowledge and wonder with others.”
