Have you been on a Placer Land Trust hike lately? They are a great way to get out on properties not open to the public. We offer a docent-led trip every 2nd Saturday at one of our preserves. This year we have added some old favorites back into the mix including Oest Ranch, and invited some special docents to share their knowledge of the ecosystem and history.
The first time I hiked out at Harvego Bear River Preserve was during the capital campaign to protect the property in 2009. I remember being filled with excitement as every turn in the road brought a new view – first the rolling hillside covered in oaks, next looking down on the Bear River, then the rock outcroppings as we hiked toward the high point, and finally a totally unexpected panoramic view taking in the sierra, the valley and a huge swath of protected land to the south across Big Hill. A mountain top feeling just ten minutes from Auburn!
Every time I hike to the top of Bald Rock Mt. and look out at that view, I am grateful for Placer Land Trust and all of our members and partners who made it possible for me to have that experience. Become a member and join us for our next hike – see this view for yourself and enjoy what you have in our back yard.
