Joseph was raised in Auburn and grew up recreating in the canyons. He ran cross country and track at American River College and later at Humboldt State University, where he earned a degree in Environmental Science and Management.
Joseph currently works as an Interpreter at Auburn State Recreation Area. He is often asked “what language?” — to which he responds, “The language of the land; I translate nature, science, culture, history, and recreation to the visitors of the park.” He does this through community outreach, guided hikes, junior ranger programs, classroom programs, and volunteer programs. After work you may find him going for a run or bike ride.
“Land conservation is essential for the health of our communities and ecosystems. I have a great appreciation for conservation lands as they provide a sanctuary for the web of life that thrives in them and provide our communities with a place to learn, grow, and be inspired by the natural world. I am excited to be a part of the community council and its mission to protect our most treasured spaces.“
