Karl is a retired professor who taught Geology at Sac State. He lives in Newcastle with his wife Sarah, who is also a member of the hike docent team. Karl is one of the original four docents when the program began in Spring 2011, and has taken many people out on adventures on PLT preserves over the years. He mainly focuses on co-leading the geology hikes, birding events, and occasional specialty hikes at Oest Ranch. In addition to leading hikes, Karl assists our Lands Team helping with monitoring, which he has been doing since 2007.
