Join Placer Land Trust for a Scotch Broom Removal Day!
Date/Time: Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Location: Canyon View Preserve – learn more about the preserve here
About this event: Placer Land Trust needs help removing an aggressive invader from Canyon View Preserve! Scotch broom is native to parts of Africa and Europe and has been spreading rapidly throughout many parts of the U.S. It is such a successful invasive species not only because it grows rapidly, but each plant can also produce thousands of seeds that remain viable in the soil for many years. In addition to out-competing other native plant species, Scotch broom is also highly flammable, greatly increasing the risk of spreading a wildfire.
We would love to have your help removing Scotch broom while the plants are (mostly) small, the soil is soft, and before they start to bloom. No experience necessary! If you’re interested, please sign up! The activities are best suited for adults and youth ages 10 and up. Any minor must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
More details, directions to the Preserve, and a list of what to bring will be emailed after registration. Check your spam folder if you do not receive the email within 15 minutes of registering.
Please print and sign the liability waiver located here and bring it with you. One form per household. Children under 18 need a parent’s signature.
If you have any questions please contact Gary Wells by email or by phone at 530-887-9222 x 114.
