Community Council launches successful event series, bringing awareness to Placer Land Trust’s preserves and mission

By Kelleann Foster, Placer Land Trust Community Council

Placer Land Trust (PLT) members and friends are aware of our beautiful, treasured preserves. However, many in our community are not, and some are also unaware that Placer Land Trust exists, or what we do. Spreading awareness about PLT and our mission is one of the goals of the volunteer Community Council — so we are delighted by the successful launch of the inaugural Nature Quest series of events put on by the Council. Nature Quest is designed to welcome everyone to PLT’s public preserves via free, hosted events each month January through May. The activities ranged from a games day, to a wildflower stroll, to forest bathing and concluded with BYO picnic by the creek.

It was exciting to see that well over half of attendees were brand new to PLT – they had never attended an event or participated before! Overall, these events introduced PLT to over 200 new participants.

The feedback from post-event surveys was tremendous – overwhelmingly folks liked this approach. It was also fun to see that people joined us from beyond Placer County too, including Sacramento, El Dorado, Nevada and Yolo counties.

The Community Council plans to offer Nature Quest again in 2026. In the meantime, you can do your own nature quest activities any time, year round! Here we offer several ideas from writing a poem (or haiku) to visiting a trail or preserve you haven’t been to yet. Whether you explore a PLT preserve or another park or outdoor space – there are many ways to experience and enjoy the natural beauty in our area.

Many thanks to the supporters who helped make Nature Quest 2025 a success: Wild Wonder Foundation, Naturalist Atelier, East Wind Yoga, Donuts and Cinnamon, Pollinator Posse, and The Yeti Tavern.
