Did you know that you can get away from it all and have a mini-dose of Placer County’s natural wonders across from the Bowman exit Park & Ride in Auburn? Placer Land Trust’s Canyon View Trail is conveniently located right next to I-80, but once you get 100 yards down the trail, you would never know it.

I love this trail because it is so accessible. It offers great views of the American River Canyon, a winding trail through classic foothills oak woodlands, and the Harrigan Loop along the newly restored Sierra Canyon Creek. Our neighbor, Ron Jurek, has been cataloging the wildlife he observes on this property for the past 22 years. He reports, “so far, I have recorded at least 130 species of vertebrates, including over 100 species of birds, 16 mammals, 10 reptiles, and two amphibians.”

This 50-acre preserve is an essential piece of habitat for all wildlife as well as humans that need a wild fix! If you haven’t been there it is open dawn to dusk seven days a week. Bring your family, bring a meal and enjoy the newly installed picnic tables along with the trail.
