About this event:
Take in the fall scenes of nature as an alternative to the frenzy of Black Friday! Our trained docents will lead you on an easy to moderate hike through our local natural wonders. Learn about the local flora and fauna, enjoy the amazing views, and see why this permanently protected preserve is a gift to current and future generations!
Distance and difficulty: Approximately 5 miles and will take approximately 3-4 hours. It is an easy to moderate hike on uneven ground with some rough terrain and an elevation gain of around 500 ft.
Who should attend: People who can hike at a slow to moderate pace. This hike is not recommended for children under 7. Sorry, no dogs allowed unless they are service animals (due to the potential conflicts with livestock and wildlife).
About Taylor Ranch / Big Hill Preserves:
These preserves are part of one of the last relatively “wild” areas in western Placer County and protect critical unfragmented oak woodlands in the Raccoon Creek and Bear River watersheds. . The trails on these preserves meander past spectacular rock formations, the gently flowing Raccoon Creek, and panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada foothills and Sacramento Valley. This is a free event; however, donations help make these activities possible! We suggest a donation of $10 per person (or $25 for a family) made online after you register for the event.
If you haven’t already donated, we’re happy to accept a check or cash in an envelope with your name written on it at the event.
The deadline to sign up is 5 pm on Thursday before or when the event is full. Please only register if you will be attending so that you don’t take a spot away from someone else. You may register yourself and other members of your immediate household by adding their name(s) on the registration form. If there are more than 5 people please contact our office before registering to see if we can accommodate you. Anyone from outside of your household must register themselves. If you sign up and can no longer attend, please contact Elia in our office at 530-887-9222 or by email.

Please print the waiver and bring it with you. One form per household. Parent signature is required for children under 18.
This activity is a wilderness outing in a natural setting. PLT reserves the right to cancel an event in cases of extreme weather, bad air quality, rain, or other conditions beyond our control.
Directions to the Preserve will be emailed after registration. Check your spam folder if you do not receive the email within 15 minutes of registering.
Important Note: Our Big Hill, Harvego, and Laursen Preserves, including the roads surrounding them, are not open to the public. Please help us respect the neighborhoods around these preserves by only visiting during scheduled guided activities that you are registered for. Trespassers will be prosecuted.
