A former land use planner who worked to include the natural environment into how we use our land, Ray enjoys spending time in and helping others learn about and experience the natural world. Ray is passionate about his retirement and all the opportunities it affords. In addition to photography, woodworking, hiking and traveling, he is enthusiastic about volunteering for great organizations. This passion has found expression through his role as a hike docent with Placer Land Trust. He honors PLT’s emphasis on the importance of setting aside natural areas and educating the general public about this environment. In addition, Ray monitors 10 bluebird boxes on PLT’s Big Hill preserve. In less than two seasons, almost 50 birds have hatched and fledged from this beautiful blue oak woodland habitat.

“Being a volunteer for the Placer Land Trust since 2016 affords me a special chance to work with and meet folks with similar values, including curiosity and love of the great outdoors.”
