Sarah has enjoyed exploring the wilder areas of the Sierra foothills since 1990, when she and her husband moved to rural Newcastle. Her career in geology has given her the chance to spend extensive time in quiet, natural areas and she finds such places are still preserved here in the foothills. She has been a docent since March 2014, and enjoys sharing her interests in geology and birds of the area on the PLT hikes.
“Exploring the American River Canyon and surroundings lead me to appreciate the uniquely varied local landscape of oak grasslands and steep canyons. The first Placer Land Trust event I attended was at Taylor Ranch, and between the enthusiastic staff and the beauty of the place, I became hooked on volunteering for PLT.”
