Shannon is a teacher in the Roseville City School District. Besides her duties as a general education teacher, she has been able to incorporate her personal love for nature into the students’ lives. She has created an environmental science-based program that increases her students’ knowledge in ecology and conservation, and she takes her students to compete in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Nature Bowl competition. Shannon also started the Blue Oaks Bird Club in which students and their families go bird watching, explore their campus and neighborhood, learn observational skills, and appreciate the natural environment. She joined the Placer Land Trust docent team in January 2016. Outside of work, Shannon enjoys reading, hiking, bird watching, backpacking, and running.

“Being a Placer Land Trust hike docent, I have the opportunity to educate people about nature and about the importance of preserving land. I hope by showing the outdoors to people, they would want to learn more about it, want to take care of it, and spread the enthusiasm to others. Spending time with people who have the same values that I do regarding enjoyment and preservation of nature always leaves me with positive feelings after the hikes. Placer Land Trust has chosen their specific preserves for a reason. The preserves show off the beauty of Placer County with its oak woodland preserves and vernal pools which are unique to California. Take a hike with me through Placer Land Trust’s preserves!”
