Tom is a retired architect who specialized in schools and public buildings. He finished his career with the State of California performing sustainability projects such as zero net energy buildings, solar and wind electrical generation, and electric vehicle charging. He joined the PLT as a docent in 2016 and has lead several hikes and helped build and maintain the trails.

Tom’s passion is wilderness preservation and exploration. During his extended backpacking experiences in Alaska, Colorado, the Sierras, and the Grand Canyon he has formed a deep connection with the natural world.  In sharp contrast to his ultra-light backpacking methods, he realized the needless excesses of our modern society and the devastating impacts it has on the natural world. In addition to backpacking and hiking, Tom enjoys long distance cycling, fine art photography, international travel and endurance running.

“Starting in our own backyard, we need to save prime sections of our foothill environment and leave a natural legacy for the enrichment and enjoyment of future generations.”
