The next couple of weeks in June is the blooming period for wavy-leafed soap plant (Chlorogalum pomeridianum). Canyon View Preserve has many areas containing soap plant. (Look for the wavy leaves at the base and the tall spike coming out of it with multiple branches with buds and seed pods.)

Why is this so special? Vespertine means “active during evening or twilight.” Soap plants bloom during a short period around 7:00 PM throughout the month of June.

So enjoy some VESPERTINE TIME AT CANYON VIEW… it’s quite a show! The blooming time will typically be between 6:30 and 8:00 PM (but of course Mother Nature can be unpredictable.)

We will also hold an informal vespertine gathering on Monday, June 23 from 6:30 – 8:00pm. Come on out to Canyon View Preserve to join Placer Land Trust friends and watch the soap plants bloom!
