On Friday June 24, the Union Pacific Foundation presented Placer Land Trust with a grant of $7,500.00 in support of the Trust’s continuing efforts to protect Bruin Ranch on the Bear River.

“Union Pacific has a long standing commitment to improve quality of life in the communities we serve and where our employees live and work,” said Union Pacific spokesperson Liisa Stark of Applegate (center, with Placer Land Trust’s Karrie Thomas and Jeff Darlington).  “Placer Land Trust’s mission and work is completely in line with our goals, and we are proud to support them.”

The Union Pacific Foundation grant will help Placer Land Trust’s outreach campaign to protect the 2,300-acre Bruin Ranch.  This property northwest of Auburn boasts 19 miles of waterways – including over 3 miles of the Bear River – among blue oak woodlands and other important habitat for many foothill wildlife species.  Placer Land Trust protected 1,773 acres of this working ranch in December 2010, and is currently working with the landowner to protect additional acreage to better facilitate public access and recreational use.
